Free Things to do in Hartford After the Holidays
When the holidays are over, you might want to take time to relax and start saving up for next year. Well, maybe you aren’t ready to think about next year’s holiday season, but you probably wouldn’t mind saving a few extra dollars, right? Here are a few FREE ideas to get out you out of the house and enjoying what the community has to offer.
First Night Hartford is annual tradition celebrating the end of the year. Many local companies and organizations participate in different ways; for a full list of events, please click here. One of the free events is “Hartford Courant: The Stories That Shaped The Decade”, a look back at the biggest news story of the decade. Held at the Hartford Public Library, the opening reception is on December 31, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m, and the exhibit will run through January 31.
- Visit the Connecticut Historical Society Museum & Library for Free First Saturday on January 4, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The first Saturday of every month, there is free admission, giving you access to the museum galleries all day long!
- Another great free option that will also keep you warm this January is visiting the Connecticut State Capitol. You can take your own self-guided tours or join a one-hour guided tour, Monday – Friday. You can see the tour schedule here. While at the Capitol you will learn the history, view items of historical significance, visit the Hall of Flags, observe the proceeding of the General Assembly, tour the legislative office building, and visit the Connecticut Hall of Fame. There is so much history in Connecticut and now is a great time to learn!
